In a significant step toward strengthening public safety and law enforcement capacity in the northern atolls, President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu inaugurated the construction of a new police station in N. Maafaru this morning. The official groundbreaking ceremony marks another milestone in the administration’s commitment to decentralised development and enhanced security services across the Maldives.

The event was attended by high-level officials, including Minister of Homeland Security and Technology Ali Ihusaan, Commissioner of Police Ismail Naveen, senior police officers, members of the Maafaru Council, and the Managing Director of Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC), Deputy Commissioner of Police (Retired) Ahmed Saudhee. The foundation stone for the new facility was laid by Minister Ali Ihsaan.

The Maafaru police station project, entrusted to MTCC, will significantly improve policing infrastructure in the region. Once completed, the station will enhance the Maldives Police Service’s operational readiness in the area, supporting the President’s broader vision of a secure, well-connected nation where communities thrive under strong public institutions.

The project is part of President Muizzu’s strategic drive to ensure equitable development across all inhabited islands, ensuring that every community—regardless of location—benefits from modern services and infrastructure.
