President Muizzu Calls for Unity and Kindness in Eid-ul-Fitr Address

By Ahmed Ashraf Published March 30, 2025

In a heartfelt Eid-ul-Fitr message, President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu urged Maldivians to celebrate by spreading acts of kindness and compassion. He emphasized that, according to Islamic scholars, Eid serves as an opportunity to express gratitude to Almighty Allah for the successful completion of Ramadan’s fast. The President highlighted that the objectives of Ramadan include fostering unity among Muslims through charitable giving (sadaqat), exchanging gifts, and extending sincere good wishes.

President Muizzu encouraged citizens to continue their personal development and self-improvement, as they had prayed for during Ramadan. He advised that while enjoying the festivities of Eid, individuals should ensure their actions remain within the boundaries of Islamic teachings. Reaffirming his administration’s dedication, the President pledged to uphold the Maldives’ esteemed reputation by adhering to the teachings of Islam and the principles of the Holy Quran at the highest level.

Extending his warmest greetings, President Muizzu conveyed his best wishes to the people of the Maldives through a video message. He also shared a post on his official X account, expressing appreciation for the day and praying for Almighty Allah to accept the fasts of the Maldivian people.

In a move to allow families to celebrate together, President Muizzu declared an extended government holiday for Eid al-Fitr. Depending on the Islamic Ministry’s moon sighting announcement, the holidays will either span from March 31st to April 3rd or commence on March 30th, concluding on April 3rd, with government offices set to reopen on April 6th. This initiative aims to provide government employees with a prolonged opportunity to celebrate with their families.

Additionally, President Muizzu extended Eid al-Fitr felicitations to leaders, governments, and citizens of Islamic countries. He expressed hope that the auspicious day would inspire reflection on Ramadan’s teachings of compassion, community, and charity, concluding with prayers for Almighty Allah’s boundless blessings of opportunity, prosperity, happiness, and success for all.

The President’s messages resonate deeply, encouraging both national unity and global solidarity through the universal values of kindness and gratitude that Eid embodies.
