In a recent post on the social media platform X, President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has intensified the nation’s condemnation of Israel’s military actions in Gaza, labeling them as a “genocidal assault” against innocent civilians. “We strongly and unequivocally condemn the continued targeting of innocent civilians by Israel in Gaza,” President Muizzu stated in his post. He urged the global community to take decisive action to halt the escalating violence and to ensure the protection of civilian lives, emphasizing adherence to international legal and moral obligations.

This online declaration aligns with the Maldives’ recent legislative actions. On April 15, 2025, President Muizzu ratified the Third Amendment to the Maldives Immigration Act, effectively banning Israeli passport holders from entering the country. This move, passed unanimously by the People’s Majlis, was a direct response to what the Maldivian government described as “continuing atrocities and ongoing acts of genocide committed by Israel against the Palestinian people” .

The Maldives’ stance has garnered international attention, with various media outlets reporting on the nation’s firm position. The Washington Post highlighted the Maldives as one of the first countries to implement such a measure in direct response to the Gaza conflict .

President Muizzu’s recent X post serves not only as a reaffirmation of the Maldives’ solidarity with Palestine but also as a call to action for the international community to uphold justice and human rights. As the situation in Gaza continues to deteriorate, the Maldives remains steadfast in its commitment to advocating for peace and accountability on the global stage.
