President Muizzu delivers: Credit card dollar limits doubled for Maldivians from February 2026

By Ahmed Ashraf Published September 29, 2025

In a decisive move to ease financial access for Maldivians, President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has announced a significant increase in monthly dollar limits on Bank of Maldives (BML) credit cards, effective 1 February 2026.

Under the new policy, the Classic card limit will nearly double, rising from USD 750 to USD 1,400. The Gold card limit will also see a sharp increase, climbing from USD 750 to USD 1,500, while the Platinum card limit will grow from USD 1,500 to USD 2,000.

The announcement, made by President Muizzu via social media, underscores his administration’s commitment to strengthening foreign currency access for everyday Maldivians. The reform is expected to provide much-needed relief to students, families, and businesses who rely on international transactions, particularly at a time when global prices and overseas commitments continue to place pressure on household finances.

This policy aligns with the government’s broader economic strategy to ease foreign exchange restrictions and ensure greater financial security for citizens. By raising credit card limits, the administration is delivering on its promise to empower Maldivians with better opportunities to manage international payments, education costs, and medical expenses abroad.

President Muizzu’s initiative marks a new chapter in expanding financial freedoms and demonstrates his resolve to place the people at the centre of economic reform.
