President Muizzu embarks on historic eight-day tour across four atolls

By Ahmed Ashraf Published September 19, 2025

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has today embarked on an ambitious eight-day official tour of the Maldives, covering Vaavu, Meemu, Faafu, and Thaa atolls, where he will visit 31 inhabited islands and directly engage with citizens. The tour, which began this afternoon, reflects the administration’s pledge to deliver inclusive governance and ensure that even the most remote communities have their voices heard at the highest level.

During the visit, the President will meet with Island Councils and Women’s Development Committees to listen to local concerns, review progress of ongoing initiatives, and identify urgent development needs. He will also hold open dialogues with island residents, reinforcing his policy of participatory decision-making and people-centered leadership.

The itinerary includes five islands in Vaavu, five in Faafu, eight in Meemu, and thirteen in Thaa, covering a wide range of communities that play vital roles in the nation’s cultural and economic fabric. From the smallest islands such as Rakeedhoo and Gaadhiffushi to regional hubs like Nilandhoo and Veymandoo, the President’s presence signals the government’s determination to bridge the capital-island divide.

Accompanying the Head of State are Cabinet Ministers and senior officials from key government institutions, ensuring that feedback received during the tour is acted upon without delay. This direct channel between citizens and decision-makers is expected to accelerate the delivery of critical projects, including healthcare, education, housing, utilities, and transport infrastructure.

President Muizzu has repeatedly emphasized his commitment to visiting every atoll of the Maldives during his tenure, positioning this journey as a milestone in a broader national effort to strengthen decentralization, empower local councils, and promote equitable development across all islands.

As the tour unfolds, the people of Vaavu, Meemu, Faafu, and Thaa are set to witness not only the President’s engagement but also a renewed sense of confidence that their needs, aspirations, and contributions remain central to the nation’s path forward.
