President Muizzu embarks on strategic two-day visit to Fuvahmulah and Addu City

By Ahmed Ashraf Published 4 hours ago

In a concerted push for nationwide inclusive development, President Dr Mohamed Muizzu departed this afternoon for a two-day official visit to Fuvahmulah and Addu City, signalling his administration’s commitment to local-level engagement and accelerated on-site governance.

At the core of his itinerary, the President will convene with the Fuvahmulah City Council and Addu City Council along with Women’s Development Committees in both locations. These meetings aim to canvass community priorities and assess pressing needs as identified by island and city residents. The tour also includes direct dialogue sessions with local citizens to review living-conditions, public service delivery and infrastructure development.

In Addu City, President Muizzu will visit multiple districts: Hithadhoo, Maradhoo-Feydhoo, Maradhoo, Feydhoo, Hulhudhoo and Meedhoo. These engagements follow a pattern of the administration’s broader nationwide outreach—visiting island councils, city bodies and women’s committees in each atoll to drive decentralised decision-making and ensure no community is sidelined.

Although this specific itinerary focuses on the southern atolls, it forms part of a larger strategy by the President’s Office to systematically tour all inhabited islands and cities, reinforcing the message of inclusion and local-first governance. The President is accompanied on this mission by several cabinet ministers and senior government officials, enabling on-the-spot coordination and project initiation.

Observers note that this approach underscores the administration’s push to bring decision-making closer to local communities and expedite the transition from consultation to execution. With this tour, the President underscores his pledge to “deliver development everywhere” and to strengthen the role of island-level institutions in shaping their own future.
