President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has delivered on his promise to make the National Qur’an Recitation Competition the most prestigious and rewarding contest in the Maldives. In a special announcement, the President confirmed the introduction of unprecedented scholarships and prize packages aimed at honoring those who excel in reciting the words of Allah.
Starting this year, winners of the three top categories — memorized recitation, recitation with text, and the Hafiz category — will each receive the President’s Special Scholarship. This groundbreaking award will fund their education up to PhD level, in any field of their choice, at universities anywhere in the world.
In addition, the President revealed that first-place winners of these categories, as well as the overall winning institution, will be presented with the President’s Award. This prestigious honor includes a cash prize of MVR 100,000 and an honorary plaque.
The Ministry of Islamic Affairs will also expand its prize offerings across all competition levels, with more valuable rewards than ever before. Private organizations and individuals are being encouraged to contribute additional prizes, further boosting the scale of recognition.
President Muizzu emphasized that the Qur’an is at the heart of Maldivian identity and that those who master its recitation deserve the nation’s highest rewards. With this year’s reforms, the competition has become not only a celebration of faith but also a life-changing opportunity for Maldivian youth.
