The meeting, held at the island harbour, drew the participation of Island Council members, the Women’s Development Committee, and local residents. Community representatives briefed the President on key challenges and priorities. Among the concerns raised was the wish of some residents to relocate. Addressing the issue, President Muizzu stressed that population consolidation would only take place following wide public consultation. He assured the people that relocation would proceed only if supported by 80 per cent of the population, ensuring decisions are firmly rooted in community consensus.
The President further highlighted the importance of protecting Rakeedhoo’s flourishing local tourism sector when considering decentralisation and relocation policies. He reiterated that development decisions would always balance community interests with economic potential.
During his visit, President Muizzu also inaugurated the Bank of Maldives’ ATM service on the island. With this launch, every inhabited island in Felidheatholhu now enjoys direct access to modern financial services—fulfilling yet another pledge of the Administration to extend banking access nationwide.
The President’s tour across four atolls reflects his government’s proactive approach to directly engaging with citizens, listening to local needs, and delivering practical solutions to enhance everyday life.
