President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has announced an ambitious plan to develop one picnic island in every atoll of the Maldives, delivering on his promise to enhance community wellbeing and expand opportunities for tourism.
Speaking tonight during his visit to AA. Mathiveri, the President underscored that many island communities face difficulties due to the absence of designated leisure spaces. “It is very difficult for families to go out together or host guests, as there is no proper picnic island in many atolls. This government will change that. We will develop one picnic island in each atoll, and studies are already underway” he assured.
The President emphasized that the initiative is not only about leisure but also about empowerment and economic growth. By creating picnic islands across the nation, communities will gain new avenues to gather, socialize, and strengthen bonds, while local tourism will be given a significant boost. “These islands will belong to the people — places where families can relax, where communities can celebrate, and where visitors can experience the true Maldivian way of life” President Muizzu declared.
This vision reflects the administration’s broader pledge to fulfill every promise made to the Maldivian people. The President reaffirmed that his government is determined to deliver results swiftly, with good intentions and unwavering commitment.
The picnic island initiative stands as a symbol of the government’s dedication to improving quality of life in the islands while promoting the Maldives as a family-friendly tourism destination. With this plan, President Muizzu has once again demonstrated his resolve to bring meaningful, people-centered change to every corner of the nation.
