In a powerful display of national unity and strength, President Dr Mohamed Muizzu commemorated the 60th Independence Day of the Maldives with the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) and the Maldives Police Service (MPS), reaffirming his administration’s unwavering dedication to national security and sovereignty.

Held in honour of the country’s defenders, the ceremony saw the President accorded a distinguished guard of honour upon arrival. He was warmly welcomed by Minister of Defence Mohamed Ghassan Maumoon, Minister of Homeland Security and Technology Ali Ihusaan, Chief of Defence Force Major General Ibrahim Hilmy, and Commissioner of Police Ismail Naveen.
During the ceremony, President Muizzu conferred Presidential Medals, Long Service Medals, and Distinguished Service Medals to outstanding members of the MNDF and MPS, recognizing their exceptional dedication and service to the nation.
Addressing the gathering, President Muizzu praised the steadfast contributions of the armed forces and police in preserving the Maldives’ freedom and stability. He pledged the full support of his government to enhance the capabilities and welfare of both institutions, stressing that peace and national security remain paramount pillars of his administration.
“The tireless efforts of our men and women in uniform are the foundation upon which our independence stands firm” President Muizzu declared. “We will ensure that our defenders are empowered with the resources, training, and recognition they rightfully deserve”.
Echoing the President’s sentiments, Major General Hilmy and Commissioner Naveen reaffirmed the resolve of their respective institutions to uphold public order and national sovereignty. Both leaders reiterated their loyalty to the Constitution and their commitment to protecting the Maldivian people.
The ceremony concluded with military and police personnel renewing their pledges to serve the nation with honour and integrity. Senior government officials, top-ranking officers, and scores of uniformed personnel attended the event, underscoring the deep respect and national pride associated with the armed services.
