President Muizzu Slams Velidhoo MP for Obstructing Development, Vows to Push Ahead

By Ahmed Ashraf Published July 23, 2025

In a powerful rebuke during his ongoing tour of Noonu Atoll, President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has publicly accused Velidhoo MP Mohamed Abbas of deliberately obstructing vital development projects in the constituency. Speaking to residents of Fodhdhoo Island on Tuesday, the President expressed deep concern over the MP’s alleged lack of cooperation and active interference.

“The council is working hand-in-hand with us, and I’m sincerely grateful for that” President Muizzu stated. “But it is regrettable that the constituency’s own parliamentarian is not only withholding support—he is actively working to block progress.”

The President emphasized that elected representatives must put aside political differences and serve their communities with integrity and responsibility. Highlighting the destructive role played by the Velidhoo MP, he said, “A responsible MP should never stand in the way of development. Unfortunately, we are facing the opposite here”.

Drawing a sharp contrast, President Muizzu noted that even opposition-aligned MDP parliamentarians have proven less obstructive. “They haven’t approached me to push their own agendas—but at least they don’t interfere. That makes our work smoother” he remarked, implying that political maturity from Abbas remains absent.

Despite the challenges, President Muizzu reassured residents that progress will not be hindered. “We will move forward with our development agenda regardless. This visit will make it abundantly clear to the people that our commitment to serve is unwavering” he affirmed.

The President’s remarks underscore a broader message: that the government remains steadfast in its mission to deliver development and prosperity to all islands—despite political sabotage by a few.

This firm stance by President Muizzu sends a strong signal that public service must rise above partisan politics, and that no obstruction will derail the administration’s vision for national progress.
