Security First: Foreign Ministry Assures Maldives Remains a Safe Haven Amid Operations

By Ahmed Ashraf Published March 11, 2025

In light of recent counter-terrorism operations in the Greater Malé Area, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has reiterated the government’s unwavering dedication to ensuring the safety and security of all residents and visitors.

Late last night, acting on intelligence reports, the Maldives Police Service and the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) initiated a joint counter-terrorism operation targeting specific locations and vehicles under court-issued warrants. Three individuals have been arrested in connection with these operations. Authorities have assured the public that there is no immediate cause for concern, emphasizing that such operations are routine preventive measures aligned with intelligence assessments.

The Ministry’s statement underscores the government’s proactive stance in monitoring and swiftly addressing any potential threats to maintain the Maldives as a safe, secure, and peaceful destination. This approach aligns with global efforts to combat terrorism, as highlighted by international bodies like the United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism, which emphasizes the importance of preventing violent extremism and enhancing international cooperation.
