Sri Lankan National Detained on Sexual Harassment Charges

By Ahmed Ashraf Published December 16, 2024

A 29-year-old Sri Lankan national, Sanjaya Kumar, has been apprehended in connection with an alleged incident of sexual harassment involving two women in the Rasfannu area. The arrest was carried out by local police following accusations of inappropriate contact.

Court Orders Remand Amidst Denied Allegations

According to a police spokesperson, Kumar was taken into custody on the 13th of this month. During his court appearance for a remand hearing, the court mandated that he be held for five additional days. Despite the charges, Kumar has refuted the allegations, asserting in his court statement that he did not engage in any improper conduct.

Dispute Over Incident Details Emerges

Kumar maintains that while walking past the women, one of them falsely accused him of making contact. This claim stands in contrast to the statements made by the alleged victims. The case continues to unfold as authorities investigate the conflicting accounts.
