Drug traffickers in the Maldives have been delivered a blunt ultimatum, with Minister of Homeland Security and Technology Ali Ihusaan declaring that anyone involved in the narcotics trade must stop immediately or be hunted down by the full force of the state. As arrests under Operation Alimagu surge past ninety and raids expand beyond one hundred locations, the Minister warned that traffickers will not escape and that the government will dismantle every network, street by street and island by island.
In a commanding message, the Minister said that those who continue selling drugs are choosing a path that leads directly to severe legal punishment and total loss of freedom. He stated that no one involved in this trade should feel safe and that the Maldives Police Service will reach every hidden storage site, every home, every shopfront and every corner where drugs are moved or stored. He warned that the days of slipping through gaps in enforcement are over and that this government will make life impossible for anyone dealing in narcotics.
Operation Alimagu, launched at 5.00 AM, draws on six months of intelligence gathering that mapped out trafficking routes, supply chains and financial channels. Police have now raided over one hundred locations across all atolls, recovering large sums of cash and significant quantities of synthetic drugs and narcotics smuggled into the Maldives. Officers involved in the operation said traffickers should understand that their networks are already compromised and that more arrests are imminent.
Calling Operation Alimagu the largest and most aggressive anti narcotics operation in Maldivian history, the Minister said every division of the police is now engaged. He emphasised that the state will not back down, will not slow its pace and will not stop until every major figure in the drug business is removed from the streets. According to the Minister, those who ignore warnings today will face consequences that will define the rest of their lives.
He thanked the public for their support and reaffirmed that the operation is driven by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s directive to purge the Maldives of drugs and restore safety in every community. He said the police will continue to work around the clock until the country is free from traffickers who profit from the suffering of families.
