The Maldives’ leading sporting figures were celebrated at the Maldives Sports Awards 2025, with table tennis standouts Fathimath Dheema Ali and Moosa Munsif Ahmed, bodybuilding champion Azneen Rashad and netball player Eema Abdulla Sattar among those honoured as the nation’s top athletes.
Dheema and Munsif were recognised in the Olympic Sports category, reaffirming their status as two of the country’s most accomplished athletes. For Dheema, the accolade marks her third consecutive year as the Maldives’ top female athlete — a testament to her consistency at the highest level.

Her achievements include becoming the first Maldivian athlete to qualify for the Olympic Games through a competitive qualification pathway, a milestone that has cemented her place in the country’s sporting history.
In the Women’s Olympic Sports category, Aishath Majidha secured first runner-up, while Fathimath Joozan Zareer finished in third place.
On the men’s side, Munsif earned the top honour after guiding the national team to the quarterfinals of the South Asian Olympic Qualifying tournament. Ismail Sajid, widely known as Kuda Kaattey, was named first runner-up, with swimmer Mohamed Rihan Shiham taking third place.
In the Non-Olympic Sports division, Azneen Rashad claimed the title of best male athlete, with Shaheen Ibrahim Didi and Ahsan Rasheed finishing second and third respectively.
Meanwhile, netball star Eema Abdulla Sattar was named the best female athlete in the Non-Olympic Sports category. Capping off a remarkable year, she was also recognised as the overall best athlete for 2024, reflecting her exceptional performances and achievements in netball.
The awards were presented by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, who attended the ceremony as chief guest and congratulated the athletes on their accomplishments.
