Ooredoo Maldives has unveiled the latest instalment of its AI-driven 2025 digital calendar, this month featuring the legendary Maldivian character Kulhlhavah Falu Ranin — one of the most celebrated heroines in Dhivehi folklore.
The innovative calendar, launched earlier this year, brings together technology and tradition by introducing 12 iconic characters from Maldivian mythical stories, each revealed monthly through immersive artificial intelligence experiences.
Folklore Meets Technology
Kulhlhavah Falu Ranin’s story — passed down for generations — follows the journey of a young girl raised in a swamp (Kulhlhavah Faa) who captures the attention of a king during a royal visit. After marrying into royalty and becoming queen, she detaches from her humble origins and eventually forgets her past entirely. Angered by her pride and loss of identity, the king sends her back to the swamp, where she becomes known as Kulhlhavah Falu Ranin.
This month’s calendar experience recreates her world using AI-powered storytelling and interactive engagement tools, allowing customers to explore the tale in new depth.
A First-of-Its-Kind Digital Heritage Experience
Unlike traditional printed calendars, Ooredoo’s AI calendar introduces a new character each month who can interact directly with users through the company’s intelligent chatbot system. Participants can ask questions, hear folklore, and engage in conversations that make cultural storytelling more dynamic and accessible.
Characters featured in earlier months include well-known names from stories such as Foolhudhigu Handi and Safari Kaiydha, with each month offering a different narrative and personality.
Preserving Culture Through Innovation
Ooredoo Maldives stated that the initiative reflects its broader commitment to building a Digital Maldives — where technology serves not only modern convenience but also cultural preservation and education.
By digitizing oral folklore in an interactive format, the company hopes to strengthen cultural continuity and inspire younger generations to engage with traditional Maldivian stories in a medium familiar to them.
