Hulhumalé Horror: Man Abducted, Stripped, and Blackmailed for Money

Police have arrested two men in Hulhumalé in connection with a violent kidnapping and extortion case involving threats with sharp weapons and the circulation of compromising images.

According to authorities, the suspects allegedly abducted a man inside a residence in Hulhumalé and threatened him with sharp weapons. The victim was reportedly stripped naked while the perpetrators took photographs and videos of him, which they later used to demand additional money.

Police identified the suspects as Mohamed Zameer, 29, from HA. Filladhoo, and Shahmeen Rasheed, 27, from GDh. Nadella. The arrests were made under a court warrant in the early hours of October 4.

Following their arrest, both men were presented before the court for remand. The court ordered Shahmeen Rasheed to remain in custody until further notice, while Mohamed Zameer was remanded for 10 days.

The Maldives Police Service confirmed that the case remains under active investigation as officers continue to gather evidence and statements related to the incident.
