Dhiraagu to replace old fibre routers for free under anniversary offer

By Hussain Shinan Published 2 hours ago

Dhiraagu has announced a free router replacement programme for eligible residential fibre broadband customers, allowing households using older equipment to upgrade their routers without additional charges.

The initiative has been introduced as part of the telecommunications company’s 38th anniversary celebrations and will remain available until October 31, 2026.

According to Dhiraagu, the offer is open to residential customers subscribed to fibre broadband packages with speeds of 30 Mbps or higher, including those using Dhiraagu Limitehneh plans.

Customers must also be using an older-model fibre router to qualify for the complimentary replacement.

The company said the initiative is intended to improve the home internet experience by providing eligible subscribers with updated equipment that can better support their everyday connectivity needs.

As internet usage continues to grow across Maldivian households, reliable home Wi-Fi has become increasingly important for activities ranging from online education and remote work to streaming, gaming and communication.

While broadband packages determine the internet speeds available to customers, the equipment used inside a home can also influence how effectively that connection is distributed among devices.

Older routers may struggle to manage multiple connected devices or provide consistent wireless coverage, particularly as households increasingly rely on smartphones, televisions, computers and other internet-enabled equipment.

Replacing outdated hardware can help improve the performance and reliability of a home Wi-Fi network, although the actual improvement will depend on the router model, home layout and other network conditions.

Dhiraagu said customers eligible for the promotion can request their free upgrade directly through the Dhiraagu App.

To apply, subscribers need to select the Free Router Upgrade banner displayed within the application and submit their request.

Once the request is received, Dhiraagu will coordinate the installation and setup of the replacement router at the customer’s premises.

The company said the process is designed to minimise inconvenience by arranging the equipment replacement and installation for participating households.

Customers who currently use an older router but are subscribed to fibre broadband packages below 30 Mbps also have an opportunity to qualify.

According to Dhiraagu, these subscribers can become eligible by upgrading their existing broadband package to a plan offering speeds of at least 30 Mbps.

However, while the router replacement itself is free under the promotion, customers moving to a higher-speed package may be subject to different monthly subscription charges.

The initiative forms part of Dhiraagu’s wider anniversary activities, through which the company is offering additional benefits to customers.

Dhiraagu has played a major role in the development of telecommunications services in the Maldives, expanding its operations over the years from traditional telephone services to mobile connectivity, broadband internet and digital services.

The growth of fibre broadband has also changed how households access the internet, providing an alternative to older fixed-line technologies and supporting increasing demand for higher-speed connections.

For customers, however, the quality of the home internet experience depends not only on the broadband connection itself but also on the equipment used to access it.

Dhiraagu said the free router upgrade initiative reflects its efforts to improve service quality and provide additional value to existing customers.

Eligible subscribers have until October 31 to submit their requests through the Dhiraagu App.
