Maldives Meteorological Service has issued a fresh advisory warning of widespread heavy rain, strong winds and potentially rough seas across the country over the next three days, as the nation moves through the annual monsoon transition period.
According to the MET Office, several regions are expected to experience persistent rainfall, with some islands likely facing thunderstorms. Forecasters highlight that weather conditions will fluctuate quickly during this period, a hallmark of the shift between the northeast Iruvai and southwest Hulhangu monsoons.
Wind patterns are expected to vary across the country. Northern atolls will face westerly and northwesterly winds ranging from 10 to 20 miles per hour. Central and southern atolls will experience southwesterly and westerly winds between 8 and 18 miles per hour. Gusts may accelerate to about 35 miles per hour, raising the risk of brief but intense weather episodes.
The MET Office also reports that seas will remain moderately rough, turning rougher during thundershowers. Authorities urge seafarers, especially small vessel operators, to exercise caution.
With transitional rains now active over parts of the Maldives, the service is calling on the public to stay alert, monitor official weather updates and follow safety guidance as conditions evolve.
