President Dr Mohamed Muizzu marked the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People by urging the global community to move from symbolic expressions to meaningful action, as Palestinians continue to face devastating conditions in Gaza and the occupied territories.
In a firm statement on his official social media channels, the President condemned the renewed Israeli strikes on Gaza, the breakdown of the fragile ceasefire, expanding settlements, and the escalating restrictions on daily life that strip Palestinians of stability and the possibility of a viable future. He said the international community must act together to secure the legitimate rights and aspirations of the Palestinian people.
President Muizzu reaffirmed the Maldives support for the recognition of Palestine as an independent and sovereign state based on the pre 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital. He said the Maldives will continue to stand resolutely with the Palestinian people in every international platform.
In the concluding remarks, the President highlighted the deep historical and political relationship between the Maldives and Palestine. He noted that successive Maldivian administrations have raised the Palestinian cause at the United Nations and supported resolutions that defend Palestinian rights. He also pointed out that the Maldives has consistently provided humanitarian assistance and advocacy during major crises in Gaza, reflecting a commitment rooted in shared values and long standing solidarity.
The President said this relationship will continue to strengthen as the Maldives remains firm in its position to advocate for justice, peace, and full statehood for the people of Palestine.
