Two people were wounded in a domestic assault early this morning, prompting an ongoing police investigation, authorities confirmed.
At roughly 10:05 AM on December 9, 2025, police responded to a report of an altercation inside a residence in Malé. The dispute — reportedly between two individuals in a romantic relationship — turned violent, resulting in injuries inflicted with a sharp object.
The victims, a 64-year-old man and a 32-year-old woman, sustained wounds during the incident. The older man suffered a stab wound to his back; both are currently receiving treatment at a local hospital.
Preliminary inquiry suggests the violence erupted during an argument between the couple. The identity of the assailant has not been disclosed, and the investigation by the Maldives Police Service (MPS) remains active.
Assaults involving sharp weapons are not uncommon in Malé. Previous incidents — often linked to personal disputes or gang-related violence — have triggered heightened police scrutiny and public concern.
Under the Maldives Penal Code (6/2014), such violent acts are punishable under provisions related to assault.
Residents are urged to cooperate with authorities if they witnessed the incident or have information that could aid investigators.
Authorities have not yet disclosed whether any arrest has been made or what charges may be brought.
