Veteran Musician Shahyd Legacy Quits 2ofus, Cites Payment Transparency Issues and “One-Man Show” Structure

By Ahmed Ashraf Published 12 hours ago

A senior Maldivian musician, Shahyd Legacy, has announced he is stepping away from 2ofus, alleging serious internal issues including lack of financial transparency and inconsistent payment practices, raising fresh concerns about professionalism and accountability within high-profile local music projects.

In an “Official Statement” released publicly, Shahyd said his departure was “difficult but necessary”, arguing the problems were not private disagreements but matters that “fans and supporters deserve to be aware of”, as they affect the “health and integrity of the music community”.

Claims of poor payment practices and breakdown of collaboration

Shahyd’s statement claims 2ofus lacked “fundamental” financial transparency and maintained inconsistent payment practices, which he said created an “unsustainable environment”.

He also suggested the project gradually became marked by “ongoing negativity”, stating that what began as something “positive and full of promise” turned into a bitter experience due to multiple unresolved issues.

“No artistic or professional growth”

Beyond financial concerns, Shahyd claimed there was no meaningful artistic or professional development within the group, alleging the musical direction no longer aligned with his creative identity.

He further stated that the absence of new material and songs made it impossible for him to continue contributing meaningfully, describing the structure as more of a “one-man show” than a collaborative band effort.

Respect and recognition dispute

In one of the strongest lines of the statement, Shahyd said it was “most disappointing” that his 25 years of experience in music were not acknowledged or respected during the project, despite his claim that he contributed sincerely and professionally.

Despite criticism, he credits one major achievement

While highlighting his grievances, Shahyd also credited his time in 2ofus for the opportunity to participate in Battle of the Bands International under the group’s banner, calling it an achievement he worked “extremely hard” for and saying he remains proud of the award earned.

Moving on

Shahyd concluded by wishing the remaining members well, saying he is moving forward with “clarity, self-respect, and renewed focus” on music that reflects his identity as an artist.
