IGMH Urges Public to Avoid Hospital Visits Amid Spike in Cold, Diarrhoea and Dengue Cases

By Ahmed Ashraf Published 18 hours ago

Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) has appealed to the public to refrain from visiting the hospital unless it is absolutely necessary, citing a recent rise in cases of the common cold, diarrhoea, and dengue fever.

In a public statement issued today, the hospital stressed that reducing unnecessary visits is essential to protect patients and limit the spread of infectious illnesses, particularly within high-risk hospital environments.

IGMH advised individuals experiencing symptoms to wear masks when visiting the hospital or entering crowded areas, and urged extra caution to safeguard vulnerable groups, including the elderly, children, pregnant women, people with chronic diseases, and those with weakened immune systems.

The hospital also highlighted strict personal hygiene practices as a key preventive measure, recommending frequent handwashing with soap and the use of hand sanitizers.

In response to the growing number of fever and respiratory illness cases, IGMH confirmed it has opened a dedicated Flu Clinic, offering medical consultations and blood testing services. The clinic operates daily from 10:00 AM to 10:00 PM.

Additionally, the hospital urged the public to take preventive action against dengue by removing stagnant water to stop mosquito breeding and by taking steps to avoid mosquito bites.
