MET Raises White Alert Amid Forecast of Heavy Rain and Stormy Conditions

By Ahmed Ashraf Published 4 hours ago

The Maldives Meteorological Service (MET) has issued a White Alert for a large stretch of the Maldives, warning of heavy rainfall and thunderstorms across northern and central atolls.

According to MET, the alert is in effect from Haa Alif Atoll to Dhaalu Atoll between 7:15 AM and 1:00 PM today. During this period, residents in the affected regions can expect intense showers accompanied by thunderstorms.

The advisory highlights the likelihood of short periods of heavy rain, which may lead to temporary flooding in low-lying areas and reduced visibility at sea. Such conditions are typical during active weather patterns influenced by seasonal monsoon activity in the Maldives.

Authorities advise the public, particularly seafarers and those traveling between islands, to exercise caution during the alert period. Sudden weather changes, including strong winds and rough seas, may accompany thunderstorms.

MET continues to monitor the situation and is expected to issue further updates if conditions intensify or persist beyond the current alert window.
