Police issue traffic advisory ahead of Boduthakurufaanu Magu repairs

By Hussain Shinan Published 2 hours ago

Maldives Police Service has announced temporary traffic restrictions along a section of Boduthakurufaanu Magu in Malé to facilitate road repair works beginning at midnight on October 19.

According to an advisory issued by police, the stretch of road between the Tsunami Monument and the Social Centre will be closed to public traffic while the necessary repair works are carried out.

The restrictions will take effect from 12:00 am on October 19, with traffic arrangements in the affected area to be modified in accordance with a map shared by police.

Motorists travelling through the area have been advised to take note of the changes and make alternative travel arrangements where necessary.

Police have also instructed vehicle owners to remove any motorcycles, cars or other vehicles parked along the affected section before the closure takes effect.

The instruction is intended to ensure that the road remains clear for repair activities and to prevent parked vehicles from obstructing the work.

The affected section of Boduthakurufaanu Magu forms part of one of Malé’s main roads, which runs along the perimeter of the capital and serves as an important route for motorists travelling between different parts of the city.

The road also provides access to several public facilities and surrounding neighbourhoods, making traffic arrangements along the route particularly important during construction and maintenance activities.

Road repair works in the capital frequently require temporary closures or changes to traffic movement because of the limited road space and high volume of vehicles.

Such restrictions are generally introduced to allow construction teams to work safely while reducing the risk of accidents involving passing motorists and pedestrians.

Police have not specified how long the latest closure will remain in effect or announced a date for the affected section to reopen to traffic.

The advisory also does not provide details of the specific repairs being undertaken.

Authorities have urged members of the public to cooperate with the temporary arrangements and follow the traffic changes indicated in the official notice.

Police expressed appreciation for the public’s understanding and apologised for any inconvenience caused by the restrictions.

Motorists and residents travelling through the area have been encouraged to remain attentive to traffic instructions while the repair works are underway.
