First Lady Sajida Mohamed has emphasized the importance of professional ethics in journalism, urging media institutions and independent journalists to uphold responsibility, accuracy, and fairness in their work.
In a message shared to mark World Press Freedom Day, she highlighted the critical role of a free and independent press in safeguarding human rights, preventing corruption, and strengthening democratic values.
Sajida noted that the occasion also serves as a moment for reflection within the media industry, particularly on the standards and principles that guide journalistic practice. She called for the creation of an environment that encourages responsible reporting rooted in truth, impartiality, and integrity.
According to her, ensuring accuracy in information dissemination and maintaining fairness are essential to preserving public trust in the media. She added that these principles are fundamental to the profession and must remain at the core of journalistic work.
The First Lady also acknowledged the contributions of journalists and media workers, commending their efforts to inform the public and give voice to communities.
