President Calls for Compassion and Support on World Thalassemia Day

By Hussain Shinan Published 2 hours ago

President Mohamed Muizzu has called for greater compassion, unity, and support for individuals living with thalassemia, marking World Thalassemia Day with a message focused on collective responsibility.

In a statement shared on social media today, the President emphasized the importance of strengthening community support systems for affected families, noting that building a resilient nation requires cooperation and care for vulnerable groups.

He highlighted that every Maldivian living with thalassemia should be regarded as part of the nation’s extended family, stressing that their well-being is a shared responsibility.

The President also underscored the role of the government in ensuring access to healthcare, social protection, and opportunities for those affected by the condition. He said providing these essential services remains a duty that must be upheld to support families facing the challenges associated with thalassemia.

World Thalassemia Day is observed globally to raise awareness about the genetic blood disorder and to promote improved care, treatment, and support for patients and their families.
