Managing Director of Fenaka Corporation, Mohamed Afeef Hussain, has said the company is working to complete the majority of the development projects assigned to it by the end of this year, as efforts continue to strengthen infrastructure services across the Maldives.
Speaking in an interview with PSM News, Afeef outlined Fenaka’s ongoing work to improve its operational performance while delivering a wide range of projects entrusted to the state utility company.
According to Afeef, Fenaka faced significant challenges when he assumed leadership of the company, particularly in relation to its financial situation and project implementation capacity.
He noted that these difficulties affected the company’s ability to efficiently carry out development initiatives across the country. However, he said reforms are currently underway to strengthen management, improve operations and place the company on a more sustainable footing.
In addition to providing electricity, water and sewerage services nationwide, Fenaka has also been tasked with implementing numerous projects under the Public Sector Investment Programme (PSIP).

Afeef revealed that the company is currently carrying out 48 projects across 35 islands.
Of those projects, work has already been completed on six islands, while another six islands are seeing rapid progress toward completion.
The managing director stressed that Fenaka’s priority is to complete projects within their designated timelines and strengthen public confidence through improved service delivery.
He noted that the company’s responsibilities extend beyond utility services and include the construction of police stations, school buildings and healthcare facilities in several islands.

“We expect to complete some projects within the next three to four months. Many others will be finished before the end of this year, while a small number may require additional time due to their scale and complexity,” Afeef said.
He added that the company is aiming to complete most of its ongoing projects by the end of 2026 or, at the latest, by January next year.

Afeef acknowledged that challenges remain, particularly in sourcing project materials and recruiting skilled personnel to work on projects across the islands.
Despite these obstacles, he said Fenaka remains focused on accelerating implementation and ensuring that development projects are delivered as quickly and efficiently as possible.
The company has recently been involved in a number of infrastructure initiatives across the Maldives, including upgrades to electricity networks, water and sewerage systems, and the expansion of essential public facilities.
