By Ahmed Ashraf Published 1 hour ago

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has extended warm congratulations to United States President Donald J. Trump, the US government, and the American people on the occasion of the 250th anniversary of the Independence of the United States.

In his congratulatory message, President Muizzu noted that the occasion carries added significance as 2026 also marks the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the Maldives and the United States. He said the partnership has steadily evolved over the past six decades, founded on mutual respect, enduring friendship, and a shared commitment to promoting peace, stability, and prosperity.

The President reaffirmed that the Maldives highly values its partnership with the United States and remains committed to further strengthening bilateral cooperation in areas of mutual interest, including security and defence, trade and economic development, education, and people-to-people exchanges.

Maldives and the United States have steadily expanded cooperation in recent years through initiatives aimed at enhancing maritime security, defence cooperation, economic engagement, and institutional capacity building. The two countries are also linked through the Trade and Investment Framework Agreement, which promotes dialogue on trade and investment, while the 2020 Framework for Defence and Security Relationship has strengthened collaboration on maritime security, training, and regional stability in the Indian Ocean.

Bilateral ties have also grown through development assistance, education, and healthcare cooperation. The United States has supported the Maldives in areas including disaster recovery, public health, and economic resilience, while the establishment of resident embassies in both Malé and Washington has further strengthened diplomatic engagement and cooperation between the two nations.

Concluding his message, President Muizzu expressed his hope of continuing to work closely with President Trump to further deepen the longstanding friendship and expand cooperation between the Maldives and the United States for the mutual benefit of both countries and their peoples.
