The Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has announced that the integration of new water and sewerage networks along the ongoing Boduthakurufaanu Magu redevelopment project is expected to be completed within this week, marking another key milestone in one of Malé’s largest infrastructure upgrades.

Construction is currently progressing simultaneously across segments 2, 3 and 4 of the Malé Street Geo-Development Project. The project involves widening Boduthakurufaanu Magu through the outward extension of the quay wall, followed by road surfacing and urban infrastructure improvements.
According to MTCC, work remains on schedule, with major construction targets already achieved. The company has completed 463 metres of quay wall capping and 150 metres of concrete works as part of the ongoing development.
Following the road expansion, installation of water and sewerage pipelines has advanced significantly. MTCC stated that pipe laying has been completed, while crews are now focused on connecting the network. The utility component has reached 87 percent completion and is expected to be finalized by the end of this week.
Several supporting infrastructure works are also underway, including pavement construction, installation of the main water pipeline, curbstone placement, cable junction development, and a comprehensive stormwater drainage network. Road surface leveling is also continuing in preparation for asphalt paving.
MTCC said it aims to complete all works under the current phase of the project by the end of this month.
Once finished, the redevelopment will introduce a major motorcycle parking zone in front of the Bank of Ceylon, capable of accommodating more than 500 motorcycles. To create the facility, approximately 98 metres by 28 metres of land has been reclaimed from the harbour area.
The project will also enhance the area’s urban environment through tree replanting efforts, with MTCC restoring greenery removed during construction based on lessons learned from earlier phases.
The current phase of the Boduthakurufaanu Magu redevelopment covers the stretch between the Local Market and the Henveiru Ferry Terminal, transforming one of the capital’s busiest corridors with upgraded transport, utility and public infrastructure.
