The Maldives Meteorological Service (MET) has forecast that adverse weather conditions affecting the northern and central regions of the country will continue over the next two days, with heavy rainfall, strong winds and moderately rough seas expected across large parts of the Maldives.
According to the MET Office, widespread rainfall is expected in the northern and central atolls today and tomorrow, while scattered showers are forecast in the southern regions. Winds are expected to range between 10 and 20 miles per hour, with gusts reaching up to 40 miles per hour during squalls.
The weather authority said sea conditions in the northern and central regions are likely to remain moderately rough. However, the seas are not currently expected to become impassable.
The forecast comes as many Maldivians are expected to travel between islands during the Eid al-Adha holidays. Travellers planning journeys by speedboat, ferry or other sea transport are advised to monitor weather updates closely and exercise caution, particularly during periods of heavy rain and strong winds.
Seafarers have also been urged to take necessary safety precautions and check the latest weather advisories before departure, as squally conditions could reduce visibility and create challenging conditions at sea.
The MET Office continues to monitor the weather system and is expected to provide further updates should conditions change. Residents and travellers are encouraged to stay informed through official forecasts and alerts.
