Hundreds of people in Hulhumalé have been reached through a mental health rehabilitation and community support programme carried out by the Maldivian Nurses Association (MNA) with funding from Bank of Maldives (BML).
The Zaytun mental health rehabilitation programme was implemented in Hulhumalé Phase Two with support provided through the BML Bank Fund.
Rather than focusing solely on individuals undergoing rehabilitation, the initiative also works with their families and the wider community, recognising the role that social and family support can play during the recovery process.
Activities conducted under the programme have included training sessions, wellbeing programmes, life-skills development and community outreach.
The initiative is designed to help participants strengthen practical life and coping skills while supporting their reintegration into the community.

Another major component of the programme has been raising public awareness about mental health and addressing the stigma that can prevent people from seeking help or participating fully in society during and after rehabilitation.
According to BML, the different activities conducted through the initiative have collectively reached hundreds of people in Hulhumalé.
Family members are also included in the programme’s approach, with support aimed at helping them better understand and assist relatives going through mental health rehabilitation.
The programme forms part of BML’s wider Bank Fund initiative, through which the bank provides financial support for community-led projects across the country.

The fund is aimed at enabling organisations and community groups to implement initiatives capable of creating sustainable benefits within their communities.
Through its support for the Zaytun programme, the fund has extended that approach into mental health rehabilitation, with the Maldivian Nurses Association combining direct support for individuals and families with broader community awareness activities in Hulhumalé.
