Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has received the first shipment of sheet piles for the construction of the Fish Collection Centre Harbour in Ihavandhoo, Haa Alifu Atoll, marking progress in the development of infrastructure intended to support the island’s fishing industry.
The company confirmed that the materials had arrived at the project site as part of its ongoing design and construction works.
Their delivery represents an important preparatory step for the project’s marine construction activities, although MTCC has not disclosed when installation is expected to begin.
The Ihavandhoo project involves the design and construction of harbour infrastructure associated with the island’s fish collection centre, which is intended to support fishing operations and improve the facilities available to the local fishing community.
Ihavandhoo is among the inhabited islands of Haa Alifu Atoll, where fishing remains an important source of income and employment for local communities.
The development of dedicated facilities for fish collection is particularly important for fishing communities in the northern atolls, where the efficiency of landing and transporting catches can affect fishing operations and access to markets.
MTCC has been involved in harbour construction, dredging, land reclamation and coastal protection projects across the Maldives, undertaking infrastructure works on behalf of government agencies and other clients.
