Malé Gears Up for a Magical Eid Under President Muizzu’s Vision

By Ahmed Ashraf Published March 26, 2025

Under the visionary leadership of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, the Maldives is set to host an unprecedented ‘Eid Afternoon’ celebration in Malé, promising to unite families and illuminate the capital with festive joy.

Scheduled for afternoon of Eid al-Fitr from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM, this grand event will transform central areas of Malé—including Sultan Park, the Islamic Center grounds, Jumhooree Maidhan, and the vicinity of the Official Jetty—into vibrant hubs of celebration. The Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF), in collaboration with the Maldives Police Service and various government entities, is orchestrating this initiative to foster community spirit and provide a memorable experience for all attendees.

Attendees can look forward to comfortable seating arrangements, a variety of entertainment segments, and the exchange of Eid gifts, all designed to enhance the festive atmosphere. The primary aim is to gather as many families as possible to celebrate this significant Islamic occasion, strengthening social bonds and bringing joy to children.

In addition to the ‘Eid afternoon’ festivities, President Muizzu has revived and expanded the ‘Eid Ali’ initiative, a project he initially introduced during his tenure as Mayor of Malé. This initiative focuses on adorning islands across the Maldives with decorative lights featuring Islamic symbols, symbolizing unity and the nation’s rich cultural heritage. The Ministry of Cities, Local Government, and Public Works, led by Minister Adam Shareef Umar, is overseeing the distribution of these festive lights to 36 islands, ensuring their installation by March 24. This expansion underscores the administration’s dedication to celebrating Islamic traditions nationwide.

These initiatives reflect President Muizzu’s unwavering commitment to enriching the cultural fabric of the Maldives, promoting unity, and ensuring that the spirit of Eid is celebrated with grandeur and inclusivity throughout the nation
