Ooredoo Maldives at 20: New Tech, New Ambassador, and a Vision for a Digital Maldives

By Ahmed Ashraf Published April 9, 2025

Ooredoo Maldives is commemorating its 20th anniversary with a series of innovative initiatives and community-focused events, reinforcing its position as a leader in the nation’s telecommunications sector.

Empowering Connectivity with ‘Live Unlimited’

Under the banner of ‘Live Unlimited,’ Ooredoo Maldives reaffirms its commitment to providing seamless connectivity across the archipelago. This initiative ensures that customers remain connected to their loved ones and interests, whether streaming content, gaming, or pursuing online learning. In celebration of two decades of service, the company is offering an Umrah trip to one customer every 20 days, totaling 19 trips, and culminating in a grand prize of a Hajj trip for two, selected through a lucky draw.

Pioneering eSIM Services for Apple Wearables

Breaking new ground, Ooredoo Maldives introduces the nation’s first Apple Watch Cellular Service, powered by eSIM technology. This service allows users of Apple Watch Series 10 and Apple Watch Ultra to stay connected directly from their devices without needing their iPhones nearby. Customers can enjoy this service free for the first six months, after which it will be available for MVR 199 per month.

Introducing the Smart(er) Home Initiative

Building upon its Smart City initiatives, Ooredoo Maldives launches the Smart(er) Home program, offering SuperNet customers bundled packages that include essential smart home devices such as security cameras and smart doorbells. This initiative aims to enhance convenience and security for households across the Maldives, with plans to expand the portfolio of smart devices in the future.

Community Engagement through Fun Run and Masrace

Continuing its tradition of promoting health and community spirit, Ooredoo Maldives announces that the annual Fun Run will be held in two locations this year: Hulhumalé in December and Addu City on June 27, 2025. Additionally, the popular Masrace fishing competition will expand to three locations: Malé Atoll, and the northern and southern regions of the Maldives. Island councils are invited to express interest in hosting Masrace events in their communities.

Welcoming New Brand Ambassador Rashid Adam

In a move to honor and support the local fisheries sector, Ooredoo Maldives appoints Rashid Adam, popularly known for his YouTube channel “The Life of a Fisherman,” as its new brand ambassador. Rashid’s storytelling captures the essence of Maldivian fishing traditions, and his partnership with Ooredoo underscores the company’s dedication to investing in local talent and cultural heritage.

As Ooredoo Maldives celebrates this milestone, it continues to innovate and invest in the community, striving to build a Digital Maldives where customers can truly “Live Unlimited.”
