The Maldives Police Service (MPS) has announced a significant development in the ongoing investigation into the April 18 incident where 21-year-old Hawwa Yumnu Rasheed sustained severe injuries after falling from the ninth floor of H. Fentenoy in Malé. Due to a lack of cooperation from Yumnu’s family, MPS is now collaborating with Malaysian authorities to obtain crucial information pertinent to the case.
Since Yumnu was transferred to Malaysia for advanced medical treatment, MPS has stationed two officers there, including a medical doctor, to monitor her condition and assist with the investigation. However, the family has not provided updates on her health status or informed the police about changes in her medical care, including the transfer to a different hospital.
“Despite our continuous attempts to engage with the family, we have not received any substantial cooperation,” stated MPS in their official communication. “This lack of communication has compelled us to collaborate with Malaysian law enforcement to obtain necessary information in accordance with their legal frameworks.”
The incident has garnered significant public attention, with various reports circulating about the circumstances leading to Rasheed’s fall. CCTV footage released by the police shows Yumnu and a male companion, Raudh Ahmed Zilal, entering H. Fentenoy, appearing intoxicated and engaging in intimate behavior in the stairwell. The footage indicates that Rasheed fell through a skylight on the ninth floor while Raudh was on the eighth floor, suggesting no direct involvement in her fall.
As the investigation continues, MPS urges the family to assist in the ongoing efforts to determine the circumstances surrounding Yumnu’s fall. The authorities reaffirm their commitment to conducting a thorough and impartial investigation to ensure justice is served.
