The People’s National Congress (PNC) has reconstituted its steering committees following the completion of the party’s nationwide internal elections, formally incorporating newly elected members into its leadership structure.
The internal polls were held last Saturday across 131 islands, with party members voting simultaneously to fill more than 2,500 positions. The exercise marked one of the largest internal elections conducted by a political party in the Maldives.
Under the party’s charter, Island Steering Committees have now been reformed by combining newly elected representatives with ex-officio members. The updated committee structures have been officially published by the party.
In line with PNC regulations, Members of Parliament elected under the party’s banner automatically serve as presidents of their respective constituencies. As a result, constituency president elections were held only in constituencies where the party does not currently have a representative in the People’s Majlis.
The PNC said the complete list of reconstituted steering committees is now available through its official election portal.
According to the Elections Commission, the PNC remains the Maldives’ largest political party, with 74,048 registered members at the beginning of this year.
