Bank of Maldives (BML) has donated 30 additional wheelchairs under its ongoing nationwide programme aimed at supporting people with mobility impairments.
The latest contribution marks a continuation of the bank’s annual wheelchair donation initiative, which has now delivered more than 360 wheelchairs to recipients across over 105 islands since the programme began in 2017.
BML said this year’s programme has been expanded to better accommodate a wider range of mobility needs. In addition to motorized wheelchairs for individuals who are able to operate them independently, the bank has also introduced specialized manual wheelchairs designed for children and adults who depend on caregivers or family members for daily movement.
The programme forms part of the bank’s broader corporate social responsibility efforts and is focused on improving access, independence and day-to-day quality of life for people living with physical mobility challenges.

Over the years, BML has carried out a number of community-focused initiatives across the Maldives in areas such as healthcare, education, sports and environmental sustainability. The wheelchair donation programme has remained one of the bank’s longest-running social initiatives, targeting practical support for families caring for people with disabilities.
With the latest batch of 30 wheelchairs now added, the bank’s total contribution under the programme has crossed the 360 mark, extending support to communities across a large number of islands nationwide.
