The Criminal Court has extended the detention of three individuals arrested in a drug operation in Malé, in which police seized 230 vape cartridges containing narcotics.
The court extended their detention by a further 30 days yesterday.
The suspects have been identified as Hussain Shavin, 26, of K. Huraa / Saaneevilla; Mariyam Isha Ashraf, 21, of Th. Thimarafushi / Villa; and Mohamed Naahil, 25, of S. Hulhudhoo / Reysham.
The three were arrested on 2 September during an operation in Malé, on suspicion of possessing, using and trafficking narcotics.
During the operation, police searched a house in Maafannu, where they found around 1.7 kilograms of substances suspected to be narcotics.
Officers also discovered 230 vape cartridges containing drugs, 26 bottles of vape flavouring and a bottle of cannabis.
This marks the fourth extension of the suspects’ detention, which had previously been extended on three occasions.
The case comes after the Maldives introduced tougher penalties under its revised Drugs Act in December 2025.
The three suspects will remain in custody for a further 30 days as the investigation continues.
