Maldivian AERO has dismissed as a “fabricated lie” a viral claim circulating on X by an account under the name Hassan Kurusee, which alleged that alcohol sales on certain flights were being restricted under a government directive.
The national airline clarified that no such policy has ever been proposed or discussed, rejecting the post’s assertions as entirely false. The claim had suggested that alcohol would not be sold on Maldivian flights to Melbourne, sparking online debate over religious and commercial implications.
In its official statement, Maldivian said: “The information currently circulating on social media, suggesting that Maldivian is planning to introduce alcohol service for passengers on its flights, is entirely false.”
The airline stressed that the claim originated from unverified sources and does not reflect any internal decision or government directive. It further urged the public to avoid amplifying misinformation.
The viral post, which carried political undertones and referenced economic impacts on airline operations, gained traction despite lacking any official confirmation.
This incident highlights the growing influence of anonymous social media accounts in shaping public discourse in the Maldives, often blurring the line between opinion and fact.
Maldivian reiterated that official updates regarding its services and policies will only be communicated through verified channels, calling on the public to rely on credible sources to prevent confusion and misinformation.
