Fenaka boosts Hoarafushi power capacity with new 1,000 kW generator

By Hussain Shinan Published 2 hours ago

Fenaka Corporation has delivered a new 1,000 kW generator set to HA. Hoarafushi as part of efforts to strengthen electricity services and increase generation capacity on the island.

The company said installation of the new generator is currently underway at the Hoarafushi powerhouse, with the additional capacity expected to improve the reliability of electricity services once the unit is commissioned.

Hoarafushi’s powerhouse currently has a total generation capacity of 2,720 kW. According to Fenaka, the addition of the new generator will increase the island’s overall generation capacity to 3,350 kW.

The capacity upgrade is expected to provide the powerhouse with greater ability to meet electricity demand while also strengthening the stability of the island’s power supply.

Additional generation capacity is particularly important for island electricity networks, where standalone powerhouses must maintain sufficient capacity to meet demand while allowing individual generator sets to undergo maintenance or repairs without significantly disrupting services.

Fenaka said the new generator will help provide residents of Hoarafushi with a more reliable and uninterrupted electricity service once installation and commissioning are completed.

The work forms part of ongoing efforts by Fenaka to strengthen electricity infrastructure across islands under its service network. The company has been installing and replacing generator sets in several islands to increase generation capacity and address growing electricity demand.

Fenaka provides electricity and other utility services across a large number of inhabited islands, making powerhouse upgrades and network improvements a key part of maintaining reliable basic services outside the Greater Malé Region.
