Fenaka Corporation has conducted an electrical safety awareness programme for students of HA. Hoarafushi School, providing participants with practical knowledge on safely handling electricity in their homes.
The session was organised in collaboration with Fenaka’s Hoarafushi branch and targeted students studying in Grades 9 to 11.
Held on August 24 under the theme “Household Electrical Safety,” the programme focused on helping students understand common electrical hazards and the precautions that can be taken to prevent accidents.
Students were introduced to basic electrical concepts and technical knowledge alongside essential safety practices for using electrical appliances and equipment at home.
The programme also incorporated practical activities rather than being limited to classroom-based instruction. Fenaka staff provided students with opportunities to apply what they had learned through hands-on exercises designed to demonstrate electrical safety in everyday situations.
Electrical safety awareness is particularly important in preventing incidents involving damaged wiring, overloaded electrical connections, improper handling of appliances and other hazards that can result in electric shocks or fires.
The initiative forms part of broader community engagement efforts by Fenaka branches across the islands, where the state-owned utility’s employees regularly work alongside local institutions on programmes related to electricity and essential utility services.
Fenaka is one of the country’s main utility providers, operating electricity services across numerous inhabited islands while also providing water and sewerage services in several communities. Its island branches are responsible for the day-to-day operation and maintenance of local utility infrastructure.
Hoarafushi School thanked employees of Fenaka’s Hoarafushi branch for their assistance in organising and conducting the programme.
The safety programme comes as Fenaka is also working to strengthen electricity generation infrastructure in Hoarafushi. The company recently delivered a new 1,000 kW generator set to the island, with installation underway as part of efforts to increase generation capacity and improve the reliability of electricity services.
