The Giraavaru Falhu land reclamation project has reached a major milestone, with 115 hectares of land reclaimed, representing 68.8 percent of the total planned area.
Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) announced on Thursday that reclamation work is progressing rapidly, with 115 hectares completed out of the targeted 167.15 hectares.
According to MACL, the dredger Queen of the Netherlands continues to play a key role in accelerating the reclamation works, bringing the project closer to completion.

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu previously announced during a press conference in September that the reclamation contract had been signed and all necessary payments settled. He expressed confidence that the entire reclamation process would be completed before the end of 2026.
Minister of Housing, Land and Urban Development Dr. Ali Haidar Ahmed had earlier highlighted that approximately 169 hectares of land were required to accommodate the planned residential plots at Giraavaru Falhu.
He noted that only 54 hectares had been reclaimed under the previous administration, underscoring the progress made towards completing the project.
The Minister also assured that registration and handover of land plots to eligible recipients would begin once reclamation works are completed.
The project forms part of the government’s broader efforts to address housing shortages and accelerate land allocation for Maldivian families.
