President Mohamed Muizzu has stated that the government is actively assessing the impact of the ongoing Middle East conflict on the Maldivian tourism industry and exploring ways to assist businesses affected by the situation.
Speaking to journalists, the President said a special ministerial committee established by the government is closely monitoring developments related to the conflict and studying its economic effects, particularly on tourism.
According to Muizzu, consultations are also taking place with stakeholders across the tourism industry as part of the government’s ongoing assessment.
The President noted that once the findings are finalized, the government will determine what practical measures can be introduced to support the industry and maintain its growth momentum.
“We are identifying the impacts on the tourism sector and discussing the concerns with stakeholders. Based on the findings, necessary assistance and support measures will be implemented moving forward,” the President said.
The Maldives’ tourism industry, which remains the country’s largest economic sector, has recently experienced shifts in visitor numbers linked to the instability and uncertainty caused by the conflict in the Middle East.
Authorities have not yet detailed what type of support may be introduced, though the President indicated that the government is working to ensure tourism businesses receive the necessary assistance if conditions continue to affect the sector.
