The Ministry of Cities, Local Government, and Public Works has announced that the government plans to finish distributing canned tuna under the “Roadha Hadhiyaa” programme by Monday, ensuring that all households across the nation benefit from the initiative.
Minister Adam Shareef Umar revealed the distribution’s progress in a post on X, confirming that the final phase of distribution will cover the Gaafu Dhaalu and Gaafu Alifu Atolls, the last remaining regions yet to receive their share of the canned tuna. The distribution to these atolls is scheduled to begin tomorrow, marking the completion of the nationwide rollout.
In the Greater Malé Region, the distribution process operates from 9:30 PM to 11:30 PM, with a token-based system in place. This system allows recipients to collect their supplies at designated times and locations, minimizing confusion and ensuring an orderly process.
The “Roadha Hadhiyaa” programme, launched by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s administration last Ramadan, aims to provide essential staple foods to citizens, particularly during the holy month of Ramadan.
In addition to the canned tuna distribution, the government has also confirmed the continuation of electricity subsidies for the month of Ramadan, as part of its ongoing efforts to alleviate financial burdens on households during this period.
