Four people arrested during a police raid on a Hulhumalé Phase I apartment have been remanded in custody, with court documents revealing the case involves allegations of assault, property damage, intoxication, and suspected alcohol consumption.
Police raided the apartment at around 6:05 am on Saturday after receiving a report of a dispute. During the search, investigators and Scene of Crime officers seized several items of evidence, including what they believe to be empty alcohol bottles.
According to Criminal Court remand orders issued on Saturday, the suspects are:
- Ibrahim Mansoor, 34, from N. Velidhoo, remanded for three days on suspicion of property damage and intoxication.
- Hassan Lujain Mohamed, 24, from N. Velidhoo, remanded for five days on suspicion of assault and intoxication.
- Suha Shafeeu, 26, of Malé, remanded for five days on suspicion of assault and intoxication.
- Rifga Jamal, 29, from GDh. Gadhdhoo, remanded for five days on suspicion of property damage and intoxication.
The Criminal Court found there was sufficient evidence to establish reasonable suspicion against all four suspects and ruled that their continued detention was necessary because their release could pose a threat to public safety.
The remand orders also provide insight into the statements made by the suspects during the hearings.
The court noted that Hassan Lujain Mohamed appeared to be under the influence of an intoxicant when he was brought before the court.
Suha Shafeeu told the court she had been attempting to stop the violence, claiming the injured woman had already left the scene and that those arrested were, in fact, the victims.
Rifga Jamal similarly stated that violence had broken out and that her intention was to stop the altercation and disperse those present.
In Ibrahim Mansoor’s case, the court observed that his behaviour and statements during the remand hearing indicated he had exercised influence and control over the scene, the people present, and the events that unfolded.
All four arrests were ruled by the court to have been carried out in accordance with legal procedures. Police continue to investigate the incident.
