Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) took part in the National Engineers’ Day 2026 festival at Hulhumalé Central Park, using interactive displays to introduce children and families to engineering and the work carried out by the company.
MTCC participated with a dedicated stall at the festival, where visitors were given an opportunity to engage with displays highlighting engineering and its practical applications.
The company said the initiative was particularly aimed at inspiring young visitors and encouraging children with an interest in engineering to learn more about the profession.
MTCC shared highlights from its stall following the event, expressing hope that the activities had provided inspiration to aspiring engineers while offering an enjoyable experience for families attending the festival.
As one of the country’s largest state-owned infrastructure and construction companies, engineering forms a major part of MTCC’s operations. The company undertakes projects across the Maldives involving harbour development, shore protection, road construction, land reclamation and other civil infrastructure.
The nature of MTCC’s work also gives engineers a significant role in delivering infrastructure across geographically dispersed island communities, where projects often require solutions adapted to challenging marine and coastal environments.
The National Engineers’ Day festival brought together government institutions, state-owned companies and organisations from different technical fields, with participants using exhibitions and interactive activities to demonstrate how engineering contributes to everyday life and national development.
Several major state-owned companies participated in the Children’s Evening at Hulhumalé Central Park, introducing younger visitors to engineering professions ranging from electricity and utility infrastructure to aviation and construction.
The event formed part of activities marking Maldives Engineers’ Day, observed annually on August 30. The date coincides with the anniversary of the opening of the Sinamalé Bridge in 2018, one of the country’s largest infrastructure projects.
MTCC’s participation follows its continued involvement in major infrastructure projects across the country, requiring engineers and other technical professionals to work across numerous areas of construction and development.
Through its Engineers’ Day exhibition, the company sought to give children a closer look at the profession while encouraging the next generation of Maldivians to consider careers in engineering.
