Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim will undertake a two-day State Visit to the Maldives from September 14 to 15, at the invitation of President Dr Mohamed Muizzu.
The visit will mark Anwar’s first trip to the Maldives since becoming Malaysia’s Prime Minister in November 2022 and is expected to further strengthen the longstanding partnership between Malé and Kuala Lumpur.
President Muizzu extended the invitation during his Official Visit to Malaysia in April 2025.
During his stay, Anwar will meet President Muizzu for official talks focused on expanding bilateral and multilateral cooperation and identifying new areas of partnership. The two leaders are also scheduled to witness the exchange of several Memoranda of Understanding covering selected areas of bilateral cooperation.
Vice President Hussain Mohamed Latheef, Parliament Speaker Abdul Raheem Abdulla and Foreign Minister Dr Iruthisham Adam are scheduled to pay courtesy calls on the Malaysian leader during the visit.
The State Visit comes as the Maldives and Malaysia mark 58 years of diplomatic relations. The two countries have developed close ties through high-level exchanges, development cooperation and strong people-to-people links.
