Maldives Gas has announced temporary reductions in the amount of cooking gas supplied in cylinders of different sizes, citing rising international gas prices and difficulties in importing gas to the Maldives.
The revised filling quantities will take effect on Saturday, November 7, 2026, as part of the company’s efforts to maintain an uninterrupted supply of cooking gas across the country.
Under the new arrangement, 10kg cylinders will contain 7kg of gas, while 22kg cylinders will be filled with 14kg. Larger 45kg cylinders will contain 31kg of gas.
Despite the reductions, Maldives Gas assured customers that the price per kilogram of cooking gas will remain unchanged. Customers will only be charged for the actual quantity supplied, based on existing rates.
The company explained that the temporary adjustments were necessary to address challenges in the international gas market, including increasing prices and difficulties securing imports.
Maldives Gas also revealed that work is underway to expand the country’s gas storage infrastructure to strengthen long-term supply security.
Once completed, the planned expansion will allow the company to maintain sufficient gas reserves to meet national demand for three months, reducing the risk of future supply disruptions.
The company described the storage expansion as a long-term solution to the challenges currently affecting cooking gas supplies.
Maldives Gas apologized to customers for any inconvenience caused by the temporary changes and reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining a reliable supply of cooking gas throughout the country.
