Maldives, Sri Lanka Hold Talks to Strengthen Bilateral Cooperation

President Mohamed Muizzu and Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake held high-level discussions in Colombo on Monday, focusing on expanding cooperation between the two neighbouring countries.

The talks took place at the Presidential Secretariat Colombo as part of President Muizzu’s ongoing state visit to Sri Lanka.

During the meeting, both leaders highlighted the long-standing relationship between the Maldives and Sri Lanka, noting that the two nations marked 60 years of formal diplomatic ties in July 2025. They also acknowledged the strong people-to-people connections and the role played by citizens of both countries in supporting each other’s development.

Discussions covered a wide range of sectors, with both sides expressing commitment to strengthening collaboration in areas such as economic development, education, youth empowerment, healthcare, culture and heritage, fisheries, and security cooperation.

At the conclusion of the talks, the two Presidents reaffirmed their intention to deepen bilateral engagement and build on existing partnerships across multiple fronts.

Senior government officials and cabinet ministers from both countries were also present at the meeting, underscoring the importance of the discussions and the broad scope of cooperation being pursued.
